Tap and approaching-stop reminders (BayBound Plus), and the free ride card that starts itself when you board, all rely on the system noticing when you reach your stations, which needs background location and notifications. BayBound’s Settings screen flags whatever is missing. Tap that line and it takes you to the right place. These are the same settings by hand:
- iPhone: Settings › BayBound › Location › Always, with Precise Location on; and Settings › BayBound › Notifications › Allow Notifications.
- Android: Settings › Apps › BayBound › Permissions › Location › Allow all the time, with Use precise location on; and Permissions › Notifications turned on. Android only grants "Allow all the time" from its own settings screen, so the hint in the app sends you there.
On Android, aggressive battery saving can also stop geofences from firing. If reminders are unreliable, allow BayBound to run in the background: Settings › Apps › BayBound › Battery › Unrestricted.
The leave-by reminder doesn’t arrive
The reminder that tells you when to leave is free and uses no location at all, so the location settings above don’t apply to it. It needs two things: notifications allowed, and the train picked in Settings › Reminders › Remind me when to leave, on each leg you want it for. It only fires on your commute days.
- iPhone: Settings › BayBound › Notifications › Allow Notifications, and Settings › General › Background App Refresh on, which is what lets the reminder pick up today’s delay. Without it the reminder still arrives, from the stored schedule.
- Android: Settings › Apps › BayBound › Permissions › Notifications on, and Battery › Unrestricted, so the alarm that posts it isn’t held back.
The direction is wrong
BayBound shows trains to work until your switch time (noon unless you changed it) and trains home after. On days you don’t commute it keeps the last direction you used. Tap the swap button on the route to flip it; it goes back to automatic the next time you open the app. You can change the switch time and your commute days in Settings.
Times look out of date
Times always come from the schedule stored on your phone. Live delays need a connection; the line at the bottom of the commute screen shows when live data last updated. When live data can’t be reached, the times shown are the schedule.
Restore a purchase
- iPhone: on the BayBound Plus screen, tap Restore. Plus is tied to your Apple Account, so it works on any iPhone signed in with the same account. To cancel, go to Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
- Android: on the BayBound Plus screen, tap Restore purchases. Plus is tied to your Google Account, so it works on any phone signed in with the same account. To cancel, open the Play Store › your profile › Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions.
A subscription bought on one platform doesn’t carry over to the other: Apple and Google each sell and manage their own.
The watch app is empty
The watch gets your commute from the phone, so set the commute up on the phone first and open BayBound there once with the watch nearby. Live delays are fetched by the watch itself and need a connection; without one it shows scheduled times from the schedule it keeps.
Erase my commute
On both phones, Settings › Erase my commute clears your commute setup from that phone and takes you back to setup. Your BayBound Plus subscription is not affected, and nothing changes on our side, because your commute was never there.
